Quality Code

The first of the two numbers between the unit number and the price refers to the Original Quality of the instrument:

5 - Professional Quality
    (Professionals and Serious Enthusiasts)
These instruments are widely used by professional musicians and are usually the pride of the manufacturer who builds them. They offer subtle differences from one brand to another, allowing advanced players to choose exactly what they need to express their musical intentions.
4 - Semi-Pro
    (College and Advancing Adult Players)
Instruments in this class are good enough for most any purpose. Near professional performance qualities easily justify their additional cost.
3 - Intermediate
   (High School and Adult Beginners striving for rapid advancement) Stepping Up to Performance
These entry level Performance Instruments offer the advancing player dimensions of musical expression not possible with instruments designed for early instruction.
2 - Better Student
    (Beginner to third year)
The Better Student quality instruments are designed to encourage the player's development of tone, expression and intonation. They are also more sturdily built than the lightweight beginner instruments.
1 - Beginning Student
    (Beginner)
Quality "one" instruments are ideal for beginning band students. They are the easiest to play, especially in the range of notes a beginner works with. Their easy response is made possible by lightweight construction. Like a bicycle with training wheels they're very stable for beginners but very limiting for advancing players.
0 - Sub-Standard
    (Not really even suitable for beginners)
Buyer-Beware, these instruments are not up to the standard used in most Canadian schools. Attempting to use them in a school music program will put the student at a disadvantage.


Condition Code

The second of the two numbers between the unit number and the price refers to the Present Condition of the instrument:

5 - Like New
    These are instruments that have been used for only a matter of hours over a few weeks or months. Usually no repair at all has been necessary and they will have the same life expectancy as new instruments.
4 - Excellent
    An excellent condition instrument shows only minor signs of wear and tear. Many of them have been used for only a matter of months.
3 - Good (Well Maintained)
    Condition "3" instruments are in average shape. They have been well cared for during a number of years of usage. Now in "mid- life" their playing condition is still excellent and you can expect them to last for many more years with reasonable care and maintenance.
2 - Fair
    These instruments have seen a lot of use (and some abuse). Their appearance is down the scale, but they are still fully functional. Long term reliability cannot be assured, but they do come with our six month playing condition warranty.
1 - As Is - Playable
    These instruments are NOT recommended for regular band or performance use. They do work and will serve for home practice instruments (to save carrying an instrument back and forth to school) but they are not guaranteed.
0 - As Is - Not Playable
    Project instruments, - repair needed.
All instruments are checked, reconditioned as needed and guaranteed (except Condition 1 and 0 instruments... see above)
